La discographie des Boredoms est semblable à un vrai grand huit. J’avais un peu parlé de leur période déglinguée, entre ultra violence et débilité effarante, avec en point d’orgue le disque Chocolate Synthesizer. Mais ces Japonais ont justement, après ce disque, viré sur une trajectoire bien différente, étonnant par un changement presque radical, bien que perceptible en écoutant toute la série des Super Roots, gros Ep lâchés en parallèle aux “vrais” albums.
Bef, d’un maelstrom débridé constamment explosé par des changements de rythmes et autres trouvailles rigolardes, on est passé avec Super Ae à de vraies fresques psyché-rock-prog, noyant notes de guitares et hululements de Yamantaka Eye dans des échos affolants. Et cela sans oublier quelques digressions expérimentales ou autres phases renvoyant à des Mr Bungle plongés dans la voie lactée. On en reparlera.
Ce qui nous intéresse aujourd’hui, c’est ce qui arrive après ces délires spatio-temporels. Le groupe s’est alors (évolution naturelle ?) engouffré dans une brèche droguée assez affolante, cristallisée entre autre par ce Vision Creation Newsun, dernière balise avant que le groupe s’abandonne réellement dans des trips quasiment insondables (d’ailleurs le 8 août dernier, ils ont refait un concert avec 88 batteurs ( !?!) dans un parc de Brooklyn, après les 77 de l’année précédente).
Ce Vision Creation Newsun, c’est comme si le groupe avait une illumination, une soudaine envie de s’extirper de leur enveloppe corporelle, d’utiliser leur cerveau pour atteindre les lisières de la conscience. Apres avoir désintégré leurs cerveaux à coup d’assauts absurdes et régressifs, ces derniers semblent finalement plus enclins à tester la near death expérience, à franchir des dimensions parallèles à l’aide de prières extatiques. Brûler doucement à mesure que le soleil approche, observer ses propres lambeaux de peau virevolter dans l’espace, tout en riant comme des damnés.
Pour l’anecdote, ce Vision Creation Newsun est le seul disque des Boredoms qui n’a pas pour pochette des collages zarbs, des dessins naïfs ou de belles fresques. Ici c’est une photo, concrète, présentant un soleil éblouissant, thème central de ce disque, voir d’un pan entier de la carrière du groupe. Le tracklisting lui sera completement abscons, les chansons étant représentées par des symboles. C’est aussi dans cette pochette qu’est tiré la sublime photo/poster où l’on voit Yamantaka Eye littéralement s’envoler, tenu par un fil de micro imprimant une courbe parfaite. Une image fascinante, presque incroyable dans sa prise de vue, et dans la perfection du mouvement capturé par l’appareil du chanceux ayant pu graver l’instant (rappel sous la balise) :
New Sun ! C’est par ce murmure que le marathon Circle aka Vision Creation Newsun, ode de 13 minutes à la transe collective. Eye balance des sun sun sun lointains, noyé dans un océan de larsens, de percussions étouffées. Tout est doux, presque en horizon, ça s’agite à mort, mais sans pénétrer dans notre espace vital… Grosse montée, accélération de cymbales, saturation aigue qui t’envoie au paradis, explosion, un rythme de folie débarque comme si une tribu de 30 allumés matraquait leurs percussions, une guitare lâche une mélodie instantanée, et le groupe assène un gimmick qui, à l’instar du “Acid poliiiice”, reste dans toutes les mémoires des amateurs du groupe : Vision creation newsun ! Vision creation newsun ! Vision creation newsuuuuunnn !. Les guitares tonnent, la saturation revient, comme l’accélération folle d’une machine qui tourne sur elle-même jusqu’à l’explosion, ça porte au coeur, à la tête et au corps, avant de se retirer, et de nous laisser sur un lit d’impulsions folles, un break tribal completement flambé, qui tient autant de la Drum & bass que de la cérémonie au fin fond de l’Amazonie.
Le puit est sans fond, le mental déjà aliéné, persécuté par ses superbes oscillations électroniques. Mais voila que le groupe revient en force, avec cette ligne de gratte qui part en vrille et ce slogan martelé du haut d’un nuage, tout se mélange, on attend des proportions de bordel extatique presque indescriptibles, la conscience est arrachée, l’enveloppe charnelle ne se transforme qu’en sas permettant de relier l’âme à la musique, des hippies se font percuter par des comètes, les étoiles implosent dans une myriade de couleur, on est aveuglé par le soleil, étouffé par une couche de percussions haute comme l’empire state building, y’a des grillages qui sont frappés, un piano qui tente de se débattre, des scriiitchfiiiz dantesques, des animaux qui font du bruits, un grondement qui nous renvoie au centre de la terre. C’est la folie, on n’existe plus, submergé par une allégresse presque pétrifiante cristallisant presque le trip ultime, celui qui te donne envie de crier de bonheur en courant à poil en contresens sur l’autoroute. Vision Creation Newsun, c’est accepter que son cerveau soit assiégé par dix milles tambours et une guitare tarée, le tout hosté par un allumé mental qui parle de soleil sans discontinuer. Ce n’est pas la fin beaucoup plus apaisée qui nous écrasera violemment dans le monde réel, mais une digression bien massive qui va débarquer, annonçant un deuxième morceau presque aussi dantesque.
Star sera moins cavalière dans son déroulement que sa grande soeur, mais se présente comme le deuxième tour de force du disque. Ce mélange de synthés super aériens et de cette saturation grave mais au combien gracieuse (aucune agression à l’horizon) va se faire pilonner par une batterie completement hystérique, au groove affolant, accompagnant les paraboles droguées d’un tableau en constante mutation. Tu te mets tout en haut de la tour eiffel, tu tournes sur toi-même jusqu’à avoir la gerbe qui titille ta glotte, puis tu sautes dans le vide, les yeux injectés de sang. Le tout sous Lsd. On plane comme jamais, avec une distorsion des perceptions poussée au max, et un rythme dingue qui se substitue aux battements d’un coeur près à se voir aplati contre le béton.
Vlan, ENORME rupture, un synthé hérissé déchire ce rêve affable avec un fracas aberrant, comme si un train débarquait dans nos synapses en faisant hurler sa sirène, en tranchant le vent façon pièce de boucher, tout explose, tout se nécrose, se rembobine, accélère, part en vrille. La notion même de musique est fracassée en mille morceau, piétinée par des dingues qui ont eu l’idée absurde de faire passer un TGV au milieu d’un champ de blé, ou de mettre un bus en travers d’une course de F1 sans crier gare, et observer le résultat apocalyptique en perdant son âme. Le plaisir est absolu, le souffle est coupé. On n’a toujours pas pigé ce qu’il se passe que la marche du début revient, avec des fûts qui harcèlent les hanches, la vie reprenant son droit, comme si rien ne s’était passé.
On passera sur Heart, assemblage de rythmiques et d’oiseaux qui tourne un peu en rond, pour débouler sur Spiral portant bien son nom, avec Eye qui susurre des Chachachacha et autre phrases incompréhensibles, avant que le titre bascule dans un trou noir hallucinant, bourré de reverbs, de batteries matraquées et de guitares qui jouent en long, large et diagonale. On chute, on chute, le marasme est gigantesque, comme aspiré dans un tube par une force trop grande, à errer dans un gouffre avec un tsunami au dessus de nos têtes et un vent de 300km/h dans les oreilles. Vlan la gratte part en couille, portée par des saturations aliénées pour une dernière bronca, avant un calme presque olympien.
Le calme, Tilde le cultive sur son premier tiers, avec une simple batterie lâchant une Drum & bass très aérienne, légère, presque timide. Deux trois effets, des oiseaux qui volent, un bruit de rivière, lumiere : Le rythme devient super enlevé, flirte avec la transe paisible, miracle, une guitare acoustique débarque et balance une mélodie latine étirée, paisible, se greffant pourtant à merveille sur la base escarpée. C’est super beau, loin des montagnes russes des titres précédents. Parfait pont pour Two Circles au début tout aussi apaisé et acoustique, les percus se laissant petit à petit englober par des bleeps électroniques, avant de déboucher sur un nouvel habillage tribal, avec des synthés lunaires, presque pop, qui s’enroulent à n’en plus finir. Le morceau, de plus de 7 minutes, ce la joue ascenseur, sans escale, sans étape, il monte, il monte, les synthés se transformant en déchirures étranges et des murs de guitares électriques se substituant graduellement aux atmosphères douce du départ, façon shoegaze vu par une bande d’incas allumés.
Le soufflé retombe encore, Arrow Up se range, gratte acoustique de nouveau, noyée, dub-isée cette fois-ci dans un océan de reverb, Yamantaka Eye qui revient enfin au micro pour quelques borborygmes, ya des phasers dans tous les coins, ça fait piiiiouuuu et fiiiiiizzzz et parfois zzziiiouuuuuummmmm, le tout devient imparable, pop song complément stone, comme si Panda Bear avait demandé que l’on remixe son disque avec les bruitages de la guerre des étoiles. Larsen infâme mais au combien jouissif, on retrouve Eye et sa copine à 6 cordes pour une conclusion toute fragile.
Omega va renvoyer aux ambiances de Super Ae avec ce début mystique, façon musique de temple, les Boredoms lançant des prières bizarres sur des rythmes indiens. Les grésillement psychédéliques reviennent, emportent tout, nous embarquent dans un paradis maculé de drogue, les boucles d’effets prenant toute la place, se déroulent tranquillement, laissant à peine surnager les deux trois exclamations des musiciens. Ça dure tout le morceau, comme une piece Noise ambiant, dénuée de toute violence, de tout rythme. Rien que des effets, des synthés, des volutes qui s’étalent, envahissent vos tympans, vous font planer, cassant toute notion de temps et d’espace. Silence. Etrange. Seul silence du disque depuis le début, les chansons s’enchaînant les unes avec les autres. Le silence est long en plus. Presque 45 secondes. On croit que le disque est fini.
Pourtant Zutto débarque à pas de loup, avec ces éternels tambourins, marchant main dans la main avec une voix modifiée, genre vocoder cassé. C’est super paisible. Les notes de guitares s’égrènent avec timidité. Limite tu prends ta guitare, un pote qui tape sur des bouts de bois, et tu joues pépère autour d’un feu, en buvant une bière et en refaisant le monde. Bon il y a le zozo du fond qui a trouvé où brancher sa machine à torturer les sons, mais quand même ça reste super serein. Même quand la pédale à effet se fait de plus en plus présente. Avant le vrai silence, habillé de quelques notes presque trop seules.
Le disque fait tout pour nous envoyer dans les stratosphères. On oublie toutes les considérations personnelles, on se laisse aller dans une transe mentale, à tourner sur soi-même en riant aux éclats, surfant sur les étoiles, courant dans la jungle, fonçant vers le soleil les bras grands ouverts. Le disque, si l’on excepte le dernier morceau, ne s’arrête jamais, avance par strates à chaque nouvelle étape, pourtant bien différentes les unes des autres. C’est une longue dérive extatique, completement allumée, qui commence sur les chapeaux de roue, qui envoie une vraie mandale tribalo-psychotique, pour petit à petit flirter avec les nuages.
Les morceaux se présentent presque comme un vrai processus spirituel sous psychotrope, une longue descente, un apprentissage de la sérénité viciée.
Les Boredoms avaient l’habitude d’avoir pour rythme des casseroles et sonorités lo-fi pourries, comme l’en attestait Chocolate Synthesizer. Ici, la section rythmique est ahurissante, entre armée de percussions ou batteries flinguées, hystériques et matraquées à la vitesse de la lumière. Le tout est tellement entraînant, jouissif, mystique que l’album est ravageur dans son entier. Une tribu de cent hommes qui se mueraient en rouleau compresseur géant, chaperonné par des digressions au relief presque démesuré.
Ce Vision Creation Newsun cristallise presque le trip ultime. L’abandon total de soi, le coeur épousant les rythmiques affolante du disque, et la tête plongée dans l’épaisse cathédrale sonore qui lie votre conscience au soleil.
Distorsion des perceptions, annihilation de la notion du temps. Ouaip, on frise le trip ultime.
Attention, l’effet de la video + musique est doublé apres 24 heures sans sommeil

PS : si tu ne connais pas déjà, je te conseille de jeter une oreille à Afrirampo. Deux fofolles de la même ville que Boredoms et qui font une musique qui a qq ressemblances avec le début de leur carrière. Aussi primitif qu’un Acid Police par moment :sol:
Gros gros kiff, je connaissais absolument pas (même de nom :nerd: ) j’ai été immédiatement charmé. Chier un truc aussi planant, violent et jouissif ça devrait être interdit. Et j’en suis qu’aux premières écoutes. Ha nan putain, j’ai ramassé maggle par terre après l’écoute de l’album…
Pour tout dire, j’ai trouvé que c’était une sorte de versus assez balaise entre les Chemical Bros (arrêtez bordel, y a un son terriblement big beat dans cet album) et le voyage sonore des Fuck Buttons (en plus abouti par contre, je ne cache pas que je trouve Boredoms forcément plus abouti, ça doit être ce qui m’a le plus déçu dans le dernier Fuck Buttons.)
Dans ce cas, si tu as aimé le trip de “Vision Creation Newsun”, je te conseille vraiment de sauter sur “Super Roots 7″ qui est dantesque pour son morceau titre “7” (ça ne s’invente pas) qui dure environ 25 minutes, de la folie pure.
Tu as aussi “seadrum / House Of sun” qui devrait t’interresser, un disque avec deux morceaux seulement, mais de 25 minutes chacun aussi. House of sun est un peu dispensable, mais “Seadrum” est affolant, il pousse le vice de V.C.Newsun encore plus loin, en te servant une Drum& bass tribale rock psyché chant illuminés avec du piano classique et des cris partout sur 25 minutes. C’est superbe, une fresque sonore à tomber. Limite tu l’ecoute que les voisins appellent les force de l’ordre, pensant qu’un troupeau de zebu débarquent dans le couloir.
A crever.
Bon apres je pourrai parler du groupe pendant des heures et des heures, hesites pas à repasser pour ça ^^
Il me le faut celui-là aussi ! Il a l’air plus varié que Super Roots 7 (c’est ce qui me gênait dedans en fait : c’est vraiment un pur trip, mais si tu n’entres pas dedans, c’est foutu…)

Ce vision creation newsun est beaucoup plus varié, c’est sur, et moins “monocorde” que super Ae. C’est un peu plus le bordel, c’est plus joyeux, et le coté bien tribal du disque donne pas mal de couleurs… !
