Attention, aujourd’hui on va dans le grenier, on souffle sur la poussière, on cherche derrière ses meubles, on débarrasse les corps du placard, P.Bateman te regarde. Parce que là je sors un disque qui m’a marqué pendant des années, mais qui n’était plus disponible nul part, parti en fumé à la mort du label hébergeant le tout… Et qui réapparait soudainement sur le net, grâce à son créateur lui même. Mais avant, petit flashback.
Je vous ai déjà bien emmerdé avec tous mes laïus sur Abstrackt Keal Agram, Tepr and co, mais peu sur Gooom Records. Ce label français, ultra éclectique, est à l’origine de l’explosions de formations comme Abstrackt Keal Agram (ahah ! ), Cyann & Ben, Montag, Villeneuve, et surtout M83, la star de la maison. Musique électronique, post rock, rock folky drogué, hiphop, expérimentale, le label était partout, et le faisait bien : des tonnes d’albums cultes de (Bad Thriller d’Aka en passant par tous les M83, les SPECTRE de KG, Happy like a autumn tree de Cyann & Ben, le Grand Pic Mou de Mils…) et des affaires bien gérées à coup de compilations méchamment bien senties (Gooom Tracks Vol 2 et Vol 2.5, les grosse partouzes electronicahiphoprockfolkindeshoegaze de l’époque)
Bref, Gooom Records, c’est un amour de jeunesse, et était pour moi le meilleur label français, seul label éclectique jusqu’au bout des ongles ET parfait dans chaque genre musical. (Je ne déconne pas, j’aime ce putain de label, j’ai brulé mon appartement quand on a annoncé sa fermeture, j’ai sincèrement vécu certains de mes meilleurs moments musicaux avec ces mecs)
En plus d’être le daron qualité de la musique en France, les ptits loups de chez Gooom étaient bien gentils, en nous filant régulièrement des compilations et Mix gratos, à télécharger directement sur leur site internet (qui est maintenant remplacé par, au choix : une sempiternelle page sexcam erotik show du plus belle effet / une page error 404 / des news bloquées en 2001). Le tout toujours bourré d’inédits et autres alter-versions de folies. (Dont un Dernier Chapitre de Psy-Lyrikah reconstruit par Tepr ) Aux manettes des mix, Mils, C&B et surtout Abstrackt Keal Agram, pour un culte Hell Mix désormais introuvable. Comme tous les autres, que j’ai perdu lors de mon changement d’ordi. (Annonce sponso chroniques auto : Si quelqu’un a ce mix dans sa besace mp3, qu’il n’hésite pas à le balancer ici, il fera au moins un heureux et je lui fais un bisous gratos)
Mais vers la fin de vie de Gooom, qui se portait comme un charme, (il cachait bien son jeu le salopard), apparaît un mix toujours filé pour pas un rond, par Dopplebanger. Avec un concept différant des autres Gooomix : Dans Dark Side Of The Gooom, le but était de faire copuler des morceaux des artistes du label avec des grosses stars Mtv (et plus si affinités)
Aucune idée de qui était ce Dopplebanger, car à l’époque, j’étais autant à fond dans Gooom que dans les Bootleg, et qu’il y avait tellement d’artisans du genre qu’il était difficile de s’y retrouver.
Le Bootleg, Bastard pop ou Mash-up, maintenant, ça sent un peu le ranci, le concept s’est tellement autodetruit/autoparodié qu’il me fait horreur (heuresement, un dernier bastion résiste à l’envahisseur). Mais si l’on regarde la scène française au milieu des années 2000, le Bootleg était à son apogée, porté par un site absolument incontournable à l’époque, abreuvant les internautes de nouvelles créations glanées sur le web, ou soumises directement au Webmasteur. (Si je ne me trompe pas, c’était l’ancienne version de Bootlegsfr.com, le bastion justement, qui reste la seule bonne référence pour trouver de la came de professionnel)
Bref, on avait des mecs comme Dj Zebra, comaR, ToTom, Loo&Placido, Moule, Creasos, Reno and co, qui poussaient le concept du Bootleg d’une façon intelligente : Ne pas se limiter au simple accouplement de deux morceaux à chier pour faire rigoler ses potes (quoique, le Just Loose the accordion de Dj Nono est un classique dans le genre), mais créer de la bonne musique, ou magnifier la matière originale. On se retrouvait donc souvent avec des mélanges mutants, sur le schéma d’une instrue obscure, d’un groupe underground, et des vocals d’artistes mainstream (ou le contraire, et vice-versa). C’était génial, ça défonçait, et quand tu balançait ça chez tes potes ou dans une soirée, le résultât était toujours le même : Des airs ahuris, des sourires, puis une envie de sauter partout.
Certains mélanges étant tellement parfaits que l’on croyait presque à une version originale (Ray Charles vs l’ost de O’Brother par Zebra, l’enorme Etienne de Crecy vs Yeah Yeah Yeahs de Eve Massacre, le Blur vs Madison Avenue de Mcsleazy ou l’hallucinant Vertigo Tripper de je ne sais plus qui). Les mecs organisaient en plus des nuits dans des caves à Paris, en Auvergne ou à Morlaix, spécialisées dans le Bootleg, avec des concours, Djset, striptease et compagnie. Bref le bootleg en France a commencé à frétiller, les mecs derrières ont pu avoir des tribunes dans les medias, putes & coke across the universe.
Ca n’a rien avoir avec les artisans du dessus, mais si je fouille dans mon cerveau rongé par les médocs, le bootleg a commencé à se suicider au moment de l’apparition d’une émission de Mash-up sur Mtv (qui n’existe plus je crois bien), et de Jingle-Bootleg pourris sur Fun Radio toutes les 5 minutes. S’acharner à couper de la merde avec de la merde, ça ne marche pas. Le genre doit désormais tapiner pour se faire entendre, et la recherche musicale passe au second plan, l’objectif premier étant désormais d’associer deux morceaux ultra mainstream qui viennent de sortir, histoire que tout le monde puisse reconnaître la source, et trouver ça super lol.
Heureusement, les mecs cités au dessus ont pu résister à l’hécatombe, comme le génie Dj Zebra, qui transcende désormais le concept en faisant carrément des concerts bootleg, d’autres qui produisent leur propre sons, et certains (CormaR) qui continuent toujours de faire rimer Bootleg avec minutie (on en trouve encore pas mal sur le site précité donc), ne taffant pas simplement à l’arrache avec un UHU stick musical.
Ne paniquez pas, je reviens à mon sujet initial : Dopplebanger et son Dark Side Of The Gooom. Le concept est limpide, on va faire entrer les petits gars de Gooom chez les grosses pontes. Déclaration d’amour au label, preuve que AKA et M83 peuvent produire des tubes, ou simple exercice de style, difficile à dire. En tout cas, le tout était bien évidemment filé gratuitement en 2005. Dopplebanger vient de re-uploader l’album pour le bonheur de toute la famille. Idée de la décade.
Pas de Packaging évidemment. Mais accompagné d’un joli artwork et un tracklisting ô combien salvateur. Alors évidemment, on change un peu la donne pour cet article, vu que le taff de Dopplebanger est strictement celui de polir/retailler des compositions déjà existantes. Certes. Mais le bonhomme semble avoir un talent indéniable pour assortir les couples et les faire baiser en public.
A dire vrai, on va pas non plus s’embêter à décortiquer chaque piste, vu qu’une phrase redondante reviendra tout le temps : Tout colle parfaitement, et Dopplebanger est un putain de génie. Easypeasy, on invite Gel et Abstrackt Keal Agram pour flirter avec Kelis & Nas sur le titre d’ouverture, Thug Nerves. Evident, notamment sur le final épileptique.
Abstrackt Keal Agram encore, avec son immense Audio Crash, qui accueille Eminem et son ineffable Loose Yourself. Je vous regarde, vous commencer à rire. Ben non, on croirait que le morceau AKA a été fait pour Eminem. Même progression, même petites cordes pincées pour faire monter la pression, un beat de bucheron. Avec, en plus, la patte bien noire et expé d’AKA, qui file au morceau une profondeur insoupçonnée, changeant le rythme un peu linéaire de l’original. Les cordes bien sombres et les bugs informatiques des bretons copulent à la perfection avec le flow de notre Marshall Mathers, en offrant en prime une bien belle progression. Balaise.
De nouveau AKA et Eminem (qui épaule le Terror Squad) pour un Nato Leans Back, bien plus laidback que le précédant, le déstructuré Nato d’AKA est retravaillé à merveille pour en faire une petite bombe bien posée. On appréciera l’arrivée des cordes sur la fin.
Sur Dirt Off You Spectre, Jay-Z va se payer la part du lion avec un sublime Spectre de KG (Merde, pourquoi n’ai-je jamais parlé de ce mec là d’ailleurs ?), un des types de l’ombre de Gooom, qui a sortit un indispensable “Adieu à l’electronique”, ôde a la musique lumineuse et torturée. Rien à voir avec l’instrue du Jay-Z original, Dopplebanger transforme un morceau quasi-pimp en merveille electronica progressive. Ici tout est lent, écrasé, les montées superbes filent la frousse, la mélodie est parfaite et colle étonnamment au flow de Jay-Z(sincèrement, vu le fossé de genre entre les deux morceaux, faut être sacrement cinglé pour avoir ne serait-ce que pensé à créer ce bootleg)
Mais le groupe qui se taille la part du lion sur ce Dark Side Of The Gooom, c’est bien M83, qui apparaît 6 fois sur le disque : Requiem for a Flame nous envoie dans les étoiles accompagné de Miss Kittin et Boom Bip, Look at my celebrity en duo avec Villeneuve et chapeauté par Twista défonce. On pousse même le vice de recycler le cultissime titre Dance que tout le monde écoutait (allez avouez, faut pas avoir honte) avec son walkman : You’re Not Alone de Olive. Ca se trouvait dans Hit Machine vol°15, ça devient un morceau de post-rock désabusé du plus bel effet, grâce à Kids Indestructible (remixé par M83). Ok, cool c’est bien tout ça, mais elle est ou la grosse mandale ?
Juste ici : Sur ce disque, il y a THE bootleg, the only one, le roi parmi les rois : Pussylicker. Alias M83 vs Aphex Twin vs Khia. Un morceau qui tourne depuis des lustres sur le net/youtube/blogs sans que personne ne sache vraiment d’où il vient (il est souvent crédité Switch ou Diplo, carrément…)
Donc ouai, ce truc, c’est une tuerie absolue, et mérite à lui seul le clic pour downlander cette galette. Le Run Into Flowers de M83 se mêle à la perfection aux rythmes cultissimes du Windowlicker d’Aphex. C’est beau à en crever, les synthés me niqueront toujours les vertèbres, et le groove vicié du barré des cornouailles ne peut que finir les tympans à coup de pelle. Ouai, on pense déjà en avoir pour notre argent, quand la salace Khia déboule et finit de démonter le tout. Khia (au flow légèrement acceleré), elle est contente, elle se paye l’instrue de sa vie sans le savoir, faut dire que le morceau d’origine n’était pas des plus jouasse. Bref, c’est absolument imparable, une bombe gigantesque, un morceau à part entière, un truc incroyable. Je l’écoute depuis 5 ans, et je saute contre mes murs en poussant des cris à chaque fois. Pas de problème, le plaisir ne vieillît pas. Medhi dit des friandises pour ta bouche. Ce Pussylicker, c’est la vie.
Autre tuerie en pleine poire, et toujours avec M83, qui va se laisser chevaucher par Missy Elliott sur Slow Gossips. Certes, la Missy n’a pas attendu Doppelbanger pour déboîter sur des rythmes de folie (“Wake up”, instrue du siecle), mais ce mélange Gooomesque pourrait presque se poser comme référence. En utilisant l’un des seuls morceaux en 4/4 des shoegazeur, Doppelbanger balance Gossip Folks dans un tunnel techno à s’arracher la peau du cul tellement c’est beau. Parce qu’evidemment, il y a des mélodies qui s’envolent vers le paradis, des couches de synthés qui s’empilent aussi facilement que deux potes dans un boulard, et une Missy qui pête les plombs au milieu du tapage. (Alors qu’elle semble plutôt calme dans le morceau de base, comme quoi une instrue peut clairement changer la perception d?un morceau)
Pour le couplet de Ludacris, tout s’envole, c’est absolu, et ça se termine sur une incartade tellement épique que tu as déjà cassé ta sono à coup de point pour aller planer dans les nuages avec pleins de drogues dans les veines. La violence.
Bon alors, évidemment, dans un disque de Bootleg, il y a des trucs qui ne marchent pas vraiment. Genre Villeneuve vs Aguilera, un peu inutile, ou le Purple Consusion vs Ol’ dirty Bastard, qui se fait inévitablement plier en deux par l’original de l’ex-membre du Wu. Mais on s’en fout un peu, car à coté, Doppelbanger arrive a transformer l’insupportable Crazy in Love de Beyoncé (Désolé pour Pitchfork, mais non, ce titre m’est impossible) en très belle gemme aérienne grâce à l’incontournable Unrecorded de M83 (décidément), tout en suspension, ça te filerait presque la larmichette.
Doppelbanger utilise aussi la cultissime accapella de Sweet Pussy Pauline “Wait a minute motherfucka, do you play baseball ?” pour un morceau marathon avec Mils, qui semble parfaitement convenir aux exigences de la précitée. Idée casse gueule, résultât imparable.
Bon en fait, ce texte ne évidemment pas à grand chose, j’aurai pu me contenter d’un “Faut télécharger Dark Side Of The Gooom, ça défonce”. D’ailleurs c’est un peu ce que j’avais prévu. Mais je suis tellement épris ce disque et Gooom records qu’il fallait absolument que je m’épanche un minimum. Merde, quand on aime quelqu’un, on lui écrit une lettre enflammée à la lueur d’une bougie, pas un simple sms genre “hello thx bye”.
Ouai Dopplebanger, ça fait 5 ans que j’écoute ton disque, ta tape, ton mix, ton mash-up, ce que tu veux et que j’ai toujours les yeux qui brillent, tellement il est bien foutu. Bon, faut pas déconner, il me fout un peu la mort aussi ton truc, parce que ça me rappelle à chaque fois que Gooom est crevé, que Abstrackt Keal Agram n’existe plus (au fait Fortune sort son premier disque en mars), que KG s’est perdu en foret (faut dire qu’il a mal choisi son pseudo celui là, il doit y en avoir 500 avec le même nom), la même pour Mils, que Cyann & Ben (tiens dommage qu’ils n’apparaissent pas sur ce disque) ne fera pas un truc aussi bon que Happy Like, que M83 a définitivement laché l’electro (pas trop grave, ça reste plutôt bon) et tout pleins d’autres trucs dont tout le monde se branle, sauf les trois du fond dont je semble faire parti, à rêvasser près du radiateur d’un collectif qui m’a dynamité les tympans.
Et puis sincèrement, certains morceaux de l’album sont absolument énormes, entre le KG vs Jay-Z à sucer le goudron de bonheur, le A.keal Agram vs Eminem qui devrait passer sur mtv, le M83 vs Missy qui ferait passer le Macumba pour une boite à mac et évidemment le mythique-que-pour-moi-cultissime M83 vs Aphex vs Khia, qui a presque donné envie à Dj Zebra de démissionner. J’ai prêché dans le vide pendant 5 ans, à parler d’un disque qui n’existait plus. Que Doppelbanger ait refoutu ça en ligne, c’est inespéré, profitez en avant que le tout disparaisse injustement une nouvelle fois dans les limbes d’internet.
En gros, ce disque, en plus de filer du Bootleg de bourgeois qui ramone 99% des morceaux du genre, c’est aussi, et surtout, la plus belle déclaration d’amour que l’on peut faire à un label et ses musiciens. Je ne sais pas trop comment terminer cet article illisible bourré de ( ), désolé si c’était chiant, mais c’est le coeur qui parle, et le mien est tout mou quand on touche la corde sensible.
Dark Side Of The Gooom, faut télécharger ça tout de suite car c’est gratuit, c’est beau, c’est génial, et ça sauve des vies. Au moins.

Gooom records…. ah la nostalgie, un LABEL !!! Des découvertes incroyables, l’album d’AKA a été une révélation pour moi, leur morceau rivière était d’une tuerie, combien de fois j’ai peté un cable sur ce morceau….M83, Cyann & Ben et Villeneuve….

Dat: le .cue, c’est juste des marqueurs, il faut encore passer par le blog pour choper le mp3 ! Et perso j’avoue que je serais carrément pas contre là, pour pouvoir réécouter plus facilement certains morceaux
marrant, je découvre enfin d’où vient le Pussylicker ! Ce morceau m’a hanté pendant longtemps, le début est ultime de chez ultime… et dans le genre imparable le craquage qui suit se défend plutôt pas mal ^^
énorme mix, plein de beaux synthés, de beats de folie et de vocaux bien connus… Par contre certains bootlegs sont frustrants genre pour certains passages d’un même morceau ça colle et d’autres moins… :/ mais bon, j’imagine que ce genre de trucs est inhérent au genre.
comme je l’ai dit le découpage est approximatif mais pour les tatillons il suffit d’éditer le fichier en texte avec le bloc note ou équivalent.
Ca vous sera utile aussi si vous avez renommé le fichier.

J’ai téléchargé le dark side of the gooom avec grand plaisir Si les sons electro-hip hop de qualité te manquent, je t’invite à fouiller sur le site de l’émission de radio que je faisais depuis 3 ans sur Bruxelles, y’a une tuerie qui s’appelle L.E.G. Les mix et lives à disposition sont bien variés, et y’a de quoi faire de sacrés découvertes.
De retour en France, je milite pour l’ouverture à la musique électronique de nos concitoyens trop frileux parfois. Ca fait du bien de tomber sur des sites comme ça. Merci et bonne continuation
Alors là bravo, le combo chronique + vidéo youtube m’a foutu la grosse gaule pour le disque + le label Gooom + le mash up en général. Je ne te félicite pas.
Je viens de vérifier, il est toujours dispo, donc pas de problème…! Il y a peut etre eu un bug pendant quelques heures, mais il est téléchargeable sur son blog ! (en tout cas en suivant mes liens dans l’article au dessus…)
De passage à nouveau par ici, une seule question s’impose : quelqu’un a des ‘back-up’ de ces titres inédits, remixes, versions alternatives, tracks refusés, et autres mixes et morceaux distribués directement par Gooom ? j’en ai aucun, mais j’ai pu en répertorier qqs uns. dont un de Purple Confusion reprenant Sonic Youth !!!… ça fait baver rêver.

Bonjour, j’me permets de commenter parce-que je suis désespérée comme jamais. Quelqu’un a la moindre idée d’un site où je pourrais acheter le premier album Abstrackt Keal Agram, du même nom ? Il est absolument introuvable.

Mais il n’est même plus trouvable là bas. Il est même carrément Sold-out sur le site du label, donc je ne vois vraiment pas ou le chopper, désolé…
Il va falloir écumer les Bac d’occasions à mon avis, et surveiller les Market Place d’Amazon et Discogs… J’avais pu l’acheter à la Fnac à l’époque, ça a bien changé…
Petite rectif’, après vérif : le titre de Sonic Youth repris par Purple Confusion & Mils, c’est ‘Shadow of a Doubt’, et c’est le ghost track sur la (géniale) compil’ ‘Gooom Tracks, vol. 2.5′.
Pour les autres titres bonus, versions inédites / alternatives, titres rejetés etc., la chasse reste toujours ouverte. A vos back-up les fans de Gooom (dont moi).
Devrais-je suggérer que vous pouvez m’en faire la demande ? bah oui, Internet c’est le mal. Ceci dit, il est dispo sur qqs plate-formes de téléchargement légal, dont Music Me. ah ben oui, en mp3, pas en wav ou en flac, faut pas déconner non plus (et, oui, ça mérite un gros: :/ ).

Mais bon, je préfère quand même que l’on passe par le site de l’artiste… Dopplebanger a eu la bonne idée d’uploader le tout sur son blog tout à coup… autant foncer directement dessus pour le chopper et lui montrer qu’il a eu une putain de bonne idée… !
Dat: le .cue, c’est juste des marqueurs, il faut encore passer par le blog pour choper le mp3 ! Et perso j’avoue que je serais carrément pas contre là, pour pouvoir réécouter plus facilement certains morceaux
marrant, je découvre enfin d’où vient le Pussylicker ! Ce morceau m’a hanté pendant longtemps, le début est ultime de chez ultime… et dans le genre imparable le craquage qui suit se défend plutôt pas mal ^^
énorme mix, plein de beaux synthés, de beats de folie et de vocaux bien connus… Par contre certains bootlegs sont frustrants genre pour certains passages d’un même morceau ça colle et d’autres moins… :/ mais bon, j’imagine que ce genre de trucs est inhérent au genre.

Petite rectif’, après vérif : le titre de Sonic Youth repris par Purple Confusion & Mils, c’est ‘Shadow of a Doubt’, et c’est le ghost track sur la (géniale) compil’ ‘Gooom Tracks, vol. 2.5′.
Pour les autres titres bonus, versions inédites / alternatives, titres rejetés etc., la chasse reste toujours ouverte. A vos back-up les fans de Gooom (dont moi).
Et bien j’avais complètement oublié qu’il y avait une ghost track sur le 2.5 ahah
