Alors voilà. Il paraît que c’est le dernier album du Grems. Le mec qui, depuis des années, prend nos oreilles pour des sacs de frappe, à nous saillir la tronche à coup de rap d’enfoiré, déblatéré dans tous les sens, à toute vitesse, sans jamais freiner. Le mec qui a, un jour, décidé que son hiphop, ça pouvait autant être du boom-bap parisien que la musique des gros blacks gays de Chicago, en passant par les caves cradingues londoniennes. On va pas le cacher, Miki Grems, il m’a choqué une tripoté de fois, alignant sans discontinuer les taloches auditives, balancées presque chaque années, jamais avare en excavations chelous ou mandales directes en pleine gueule. Trop de grands disques, avec une impression que le bonhomme affinait de plus en plus sa recette sur ces dernières années, à doser les ingrédients à la perfection pour trouver le bon mélange, entre un Broka Billy qui avait décidé d’émerger d’une autre planète, un Klub Sandwich qui partait à l’aventure sans se soucier de savoir si on allait le suivre, et un PMPDJ qui semblait trouver l’équilibre parfait entre expérimentation et distribution de cartouches.
Forcément, on l’attendait ce Vampire. Il était annoncé comme radical. Dans les lyrics, mais aussi dans la musique, Grems choisissant des producteurs n’ayant pas vraiment peur de s’embarquer sur des terrains accidentés. Et si la plupart des artistes veulent, pour leur baroud d’honneur, faire un disque rassembleur et ouvert, histoire de terminer en rameutant les foules, Grems prend le monde à rebrousse poil, et tire sa révérence sans bouquet de fleur, avec des flingues bien callés dans chaque main.
Acheter ce disque nous met face à un dilemme important, devant choisir entre une version itunes bénéficiant de 6 titres bonus en précommande, ou d’une version Cd belle mais se limitant strictement à l’album prévu initialement. C’est à dire devoir glaner les tracks supplémentaires sur le net. Dur.
Par contre, pour aller directement à l’essentiel (c’est que l’album fait très bien d’ailleurs), Grems et ses potes nous filent des prod’ d’extraterrestre. Ca m’embête, je radote. Mais à chaque LP du Mc, tu te retrouves avec de la folie pure. Et quand le Mc annonçait que ce Vampire n’allait pas plaire aux fans de boom-bap, il n’était pas en train de nous bourrer le mou. Et ça, tu le comprends dès Préface, by Chamade Beat, qui te déroule des petits synthés cristallins super beaux qui s’enroulent et te font sentir le printemps, le soleil et les filles qui courent au ralenti. C’est beau comme un croissant au miel, comme Kirsten Stewart qui fait de l’autostop. Le beat est lourd, le Grems est calmé, violent dans son texte mais serein dans sa voix, comme s’il te passait un savon installé tranquillement dans un canapé, à siroter une bière avant de te la casser sur la tronche. Ca n’a pas l’air comme ça, mais l’intro reflète parfaitement ce que tu vas trouver dans Vampire : des petits bijoux de production, foutrement électroniques. Et un Grems sur les dents, le poing serré, qui va tirer sur tout le monde, décimer ses cibles avec violence et précision, mais sereinement, la clope au bec, Omar style.
Ca tournait depuis quelques temps comme info, le parisien a fait appel à un certain Neue Graphik, dont j’avais rapidement parlé, sacrement mec quand il s’agit d’arpenter des chemins UK garage and co. Sur Vampire, le Neue, aidé de John9000, se lâche complètement, et refile des productions quasiment ubuesques, inrappables pour le commun des mortels. A dire vrai, j’aurai payé pour voir Grems, en écoutant Pieu, dire “ah ouai cool je vais rapper sur ça, facile”. Parce que mec, moi, je ne serai même pas capable de parler sur ça. Je ne serai pas capable de chanter sous la douche sur ça. La folie furieuse cette prod, ça part dans tous les sens, c’est un espèce de Uk malaxé mille feuilles avec des synthés qui mutent sans arrêt des rythmes qui explosent sans discontinuer. Ecouté vite fait, ça n’a aucun sens. Puis tu décortiques le tout, et tu te chies dessus, parce que c’est beau comme la mort. C’est la guerre des étoiles ce putain de truc. Merde les synthés à 0min55 ? Ils ne sont là que dix secondes max, mais ils te crèvent le palpitant. Il n’y a pas que, ya aussi une mini wobble bass, des gunshot, des nappes aériennes, une boite à rythme claudiquante. C’est genre 5 morceaux foutus en même temps qui te tabassent la tronche dans une cave. Et le Grems qui se balade dessus, tranquille, les mains dans les poches, comme si c’était normal. Mais non mec, ce n’est pas normal. C’est quoi ce délire ? Tu te dopes ? Fou.
Et il y en a d’autres. Neue Graphik fait des merveilles, et accouche des prod les plus aberrantes de l’album. Full HD, c’est une sorte de Grime réduite en miette, triturée jusqu’aux viscères, avec des flingues de partout, ça tire dans tous les sens, limite tu te couches sous ta table avec les mains sur la tête histoire de ne pas te prendre une bastos perdue dans le bide. Et Grems, il est hystérique. Plus de phases que de balles qui fusent dans un film de John Wayne. Et puis tu as Chair Fraiche, Uk qui se nécrose, qui fait des faux démarrages, qui se cabre, te fouette et retombe de façon ultra brusque. J’ai l’habitude d’écouter des trucs cramés pourtant, des disques qui réveilleraient des cadavres. Mais même là, je me suis dis “non mais ça vient d’ou ça ?”
Et si Neue remporte la palme des productions qui te donnent l’impression d’avoir mélange Dogmatil et coca zéro, il y a d’autres aliens sur Vampire. Entek devait avoir vu Enter The Void dix fois de suite en mangeant de la drogue avec ses corn-flakes, parce que son Charogne ressemble à un épisode de The Shield mixé avec du Dj Rashad. Bassline de terroriste, rythme de terroriste, structure de terroriste. Tu vomis ton cerveau par le nez à la première écoute, mais après tu prends grave ton pied. Tu imagines te faire trainer la gueule sur le bitume, avec des bagnoles de flic qui te suivent à la trace, et du Autechre dans l’auto-radio ? Bah voilà, tu as ton morceau. Son Of Kick te livre une production incroyable (mais ça c’est pas une surprise) sur UFO, mélangeant grandiloquence orchestrale et explosions cybernétiques qui giclent dans toutes les directions, entre claviers dements et rouleaux compresseurs qui ruinent toute bonne relation avec ton voisinage. En bonus, les mecs rappent à toute vitesse. Le passage à tabac brutal et total.
Mais il n’y a pas que des instrues qui annihileront tes neurones pour te transformer en légume sur ce Vampire. Car Grems et ses potes savent équilibrer le bordel, et offrir quelques respirations. Et ces dernières sont aussi belles et salvatrice qu’un weekend à la montagne. Le Jouage, à la prod et au feat, balance le tube ghetto du disque, Les Bails, avec une instrue pachydermique. Mandales rotatives. J’ai bien l’impression que les deux loustics annoncent un album de Hustla à venir, et si ça ce confirme, c’est un peu la meilleure nouvelle de l’année après la victoire de mon chat au prochain concours du plus beau scottish fold.
Vampire claque la tronche, premier single, normal, on se secoue la nouille en kiffant le refrain imparable, patate dans la bouche. Mais Grems sait aussi frustrer pas mal. Tu te souviens du syndrome La Barbe, genre je sors un super morceau mais je l’arrête après une minute ? Ben il nous refait le coup, avec Interlude, sublime instrue, claire comme de l’eau de roche, jouissive en diable. Et boum, elle se dérobe au bout de cinquante secondes. Grems n’est pas forcément là pour nous faire plaisir, on le sait, mais là, c’est du sadisme. Apres, le bondage, les coups de fouet et le latex, c’est mon truc, donc ça ne me dérange pas plus que ça. Mais merde, le morceau est tellement mortel, on aurait bien aimé en entendre beaucoup plus. Heureusement que Noza nous refile un autre bijou, Cimetière, qui nous fera dodeliner tranquillement la tête, plutôt que de vouloir nous l’écrabouiller. Le genre de morceau qui remportera tous les suffrages. C’est beau comme une après midi dans un parc, une balade en vélo avec des lunettes de soleil sur le nez. Instrue parfaite, lyrics nickels, avec une jolie salve sur les ipods en fin de track.
Bon par contre, je le défendrai becs et ongles, mais Shlag Music est le meilleur morceau du disque. Même si trop court. Mim, Korgbrain et Grems filent une production superbe, avec cette mélodie depressivo-candide qui me file la frousse, ces rythmes fous, pour un Mc en roue libre totale. J’adorerai avoir l’instrue de ce morceau, ou une version “extended”, afin de l’écouter tranquillement, en pleine nuit, une bouteille de bière à la main, en train de me noyer dans mes souvenirs, coincé entre deux jours. Je ne sais pas pourquoi je suis autant attaché à ce morceau, il me casse la colonne à chaque fois. Je veux dire, tu écoutes Grems, tu t’attends souvent à te prendre des claques dans la tronche, ou à vouloir sauter contre tes murs ou dans la rue comme un débile. Normal. Mais là, l’instrue, toute belle, me file des papillons dans le ventre. Et une espèce de nostalgie, légère, mais latente. Un des meilleurs morceaux de Grems, assurément, même s’il ne semble pas payer de mine à première vue, coincé entre les monstres de complexités ou les charges radicales du reste de l’album. Petit diamant.
Et puis tu as Pince Moi Je Reve. L’autre bombe absolue du disque. Le tour de force, la track rêvée. Grems foule à nouveau des teintes plus proches d’un Deepchord que d’un rap de rue, à l’instar de La Barbe ou Cpmpdj. Et ici, c’est Son Of Kick qui est responsable de cette folie, sous l’alias Rose Ryot. Et bordel, le mec s’est littéralement arraché. On commence sur une techno dubbée, très urbaine, mégalopole bourrée de néons qui grésillent sous la pluie, en pleine nuit, un truc que Rod Modell n’aurait pas refusé. C’est superbe, en suspension, éthéré… Et après quelques élucubrations métaphysiques, on bascule dans une Juke hystérique, avec une boite à rythme qui pête un cable, tout en gardant les apparats cristallins du départ. La claque énorme. C’est complètement fou, ultra maitrisé, le choc fut grand à la première écoute. Après cette minute frénétique, Grems est bloqué, mis en boucle, et Son Of Kick commence à pousser la chansonnette, c’est dépressif en diable, rap game chair de poule.
Je ne parle même du morceau en lui même, de SOK, de Grems. Je parle juste de la qualité du son. Cette espèce de bulle sonore, secouée de toute part, en suspension, qui dérive, doucement, que tu tentes de suivre. Avec cette techno en fond sonore qui semble imprimer une continuité, un songe cotonneux, contrastant fortement avec les rafales de snares, et cette phrase coupée de Grems, –pincemoijr’-, hypnotique, balancée avec ce qu’il faut juste d’écho. On à l’impression d’être enfermé dans la tête de quelqu’un, à écouter un morceau en flottant dans un liquide amniotique chelou. La production, le mix de ce morceau impressionne, file le vertige, tranche avec le reste du disque. Morceau en 3D, c’est le James Cameron du rap français ce truc, mais en moins niais et mille fois plus bandant. Vous avez surement rien compris à ce que je viens d’écrire, mais c’est vomi sur papier comme mes oreilles le vivent. Ce morceau clôture l’album, et le fait d’une façon flippante, qui nous fout sur les rotules.
Alors il y a les titres bonus, impossible de ne pas en parler. On regrette grave que le tube énorme Room Bang, avec 20syl à la prod et en feat, ne soit pas sur le disque. Parce que ça tabasse dur. Tout comme Hotel Plazza, sacrée bombe house/deepkho et son refrain vénéneux que tu voudras chanter sous ta douche toute la semaine. On connaissait le salace Neutralia, highlight de la mixtape 3713 sortie l’année dernière. XXmelo assurera le taff pour faire bouger les nuques, tout comme le remix de vampire, mais en mode violence. Noel pépère, pas indispensable, mais bien coolos.
On regrette donc de ne pas voir certains de ces bonus intégrés à la version physique. Mais les intégrer, ça serait briser la cohérence de Vampire, évidemment. Et si il y a bien un truc que l’on peut accorder à Vampire, c’est d’être cohérent, à l’extrême, quitte à sonner trop court et monolithique. Court, comme l’était Algèbre 2.0. D’ailleurs, Vampire semble être le négatif de cet album, le jumeau maléfique. Même format, même durée, pochette noire pour l’un, blanche immaculée pour l’autre. Boom-bap sans concession pour l’ancien, électronique folle pour le nouveau. Sans jamais dériver de sa ligne de conduite. Jamais. Quitte à livrer un album difficile, déstructuré, quasi aliéné. Hargne sur la quasi totalité des textes du disque, à distribuer les torgnoles et kicker l’exemple, Grems règle ses compte, et part le flingue à la main dézinguer l’autophagie du rap français.
Ce qui est étonnant, c’est de le faire sur un disque aussi jusqu’auboutiste, aussi complexe et nébuleux, bourré de prods labyrinthiques et electro, difficile à appréhender aux premières écoutes, mais affolant dès que l’on commence à dépiauter la fresque. Et si sur Vampire, Grems impressionne toujours au micro, à te balancer des couplets de l’espace qui riment en diagonale, et surtout à arpenter des instrues psychées, c’est bien, encore et toujours, les producteurs qui brillent autant que le Mc. Son Of Kick confirme qui surclasse le game, brillant dans tous les domaines. Korgbrain est fou. Neue Graphik déboule sans prévenir et tabasse tout ce qui bouge. Noza qui gagne à tous les coups, à domicile comme à l’extérieur. Et Grems qui chapote le tout à la prod, histoire d’imprimer une direction, une identité ultra forte à Vampire, qui ne ressemble à rien d’autre dans le paysage français en ce moment. Le seul petit défaut de ce disque, c’est de ne pas laisser les morceaux Interlude et Pince moi je rêve s’étendre un peu plus longtemps, tant ces prods transpirent le miracle.
Alors on dit que Grems arrête, que c’est son dernier album. Je pense que c’est une erreur d’interprétation. Plutôt que de clore une vie de musicien, Vampire est le terme de la première phase de la carrière du bonhomme. La mutation est en cours, et le Mc est déjà en embuscade pour sa nouvelle ère, peut être plus apaisée. Avec, on l’espère, des projets comme le trop attendu MikaMiki, ou un nouveau Hustla.
Hâte d’entendre la suite donc, mais avec un album aussi fou et complexe que ce Vampire, on a largement de quoi prendre son pied sans mourir d’impatience. Quand on nous donne du caviar à bouffer, pas besoin de se ronger les ongles en attendant le prochain se(r)vice.

Bon déjà, d’après ce que j’ai compris, c’est bel et bien le dernier “album” solo de Grems, maos on pourra encore avoir droit à des feat, collabs, maxi, groupes, etc. Ensuite, ba, Vampire est une tuerie de A à Z comme d’hab. Pas bcp de reproches, si ce n’est la longueur de l’album et des morceaux : tous trop courts !!! Surtout pour un dernier jet solo, franchement on attendait plus. J’avais préco l’album sur iTunes et heureusement qu’il y a les 6 titres supplémentaires, sinon y’a de quoi déprimer sérieux…
Pour un dernier essai justement, je le trouve peut-être moins en avance de phase, moins “visionnaire” qu’un Broka Billy par exemple, qui éclatait tous les codes du genre. Ca peut éventuellement etre une autre forme de reproche, mais j’aime tellement Grems sur des prods comme celles de Vampire. En fait, je kif tout ce que fait Grems. Meme sa décision d’arrêter les solos est compréhensible. Et à bien y réfléchir, fallait un sacré recul pour le comprendre. Donc bravo à lui pour tout, et vivement la suite 😉

J’accroche moins au son sur cet album, je me suis arrêté aux prods plus pêchues de Haterville. En revanche, je n’ai jamais accroché aux paroles de grems, encore moins sur les albums précédents, la forme est bonne mais le fond… En même temps, ça n’a rien d’objectif, j’ai toujours trouvé les rappeurs consternants dans leur discours, ça me crispe… Même les psykick et arm, ça me gonfle d’écouter leurs conneries… Y a peut-être stupeflip sur leurs morceaux hiphop quand ils parlent de l’enfance, tout ça… ça change un peu de l’éternel complainte ou de l’egotrip. Enfin Grems part dans des bons délires de temps en temps et les rimes sont recherchés. Excellente chro dat’ (tu devrais faire du rap en parlant de musique, là, je serais preneur)
d… ==> je suis parfois d’accord avec toi, mais je pense que tu pars un peu loin là, il n’y a aucune idéologie pop-capitaliste-conso-rapide dans le choix de grems de faire des morceaux courts.
Comme je disais, une ou deux tracks auraient mérité une minute de plus, mais sinon, je pense que le mec veut balancer un truc qui frappe, un truc bref, une torgnole, sans s’embarrasser de fioritures. Des albums de 30 minutes en rap, il y en a des tonnes, ça a toujours été un format dans le genre rien de nouveau, tout comme les gros albums de 70min bourrés de skits dans un autre extreme.
– si tu le dit ? . mais oui ! en fait je ne viser pas Grems , il n’est que le déclencheur de mon ras le bol sur le sujet .
mais évidement l’artiste n’a pas a adapter ses morceaux a une durée précise ! et pour qui que se soi .
