Après 30 ans, on est plus vieux que jeune. Les rêves de gosses commencent à s’estomper, remplacés par une légère frustration d’avoir loupé des étapes dans sa vie. On déroule les choix cruciaux que l’on a pu arpenter, les vies loupées. Niveau musique, on comprend enfin pourquoi nos vieux radotent sur les mêmes disques, et appréhendent de se diriger vers de nouveaux sons : parce que c’est rassurant. J’ai toujours pensé que les adultes à la quarantaine bien tassée avaient de légers problèmes d’oreilles, une hyperacousie latente, quasi imperceptible, rendant plus simple l’écoute d’un disque déjà assimilé par l’organisme depuis 15 ans, plutôt que de se lancer dans une nouvelle aventure accidentée. Car ici, c’est la menace permanente, c’est le disque inécoutable pour une bonne partie du monstre-foule. C’est la fête de cave droguée, c’est l’apocalypse techno, c’est la crise d’épilepsie aux relents barbituriques. Tu as Krystle (URL Cyber Palace Mix) qui désintègre une techno dreamy avec des amen breaks ultra violents, avant un long tunnel pleins de synthés qui volent dans tous les sens. Gimmicks surannés, bâtons fluos, on se croirait chez Ceephax, l’ironie en moins, l’ultraviolence en plus. Tu as les tunnels gotchico-grime façon Ginger Claps, qui malaxe la mélodie en boucle pour renvoyer vers un bordel cauchemardesque. Ou la juke-rave de かわいい Post Rave Maximalist, frôlant le hardcore avec ses synthés traumatiques, qui ferraient passer tes soirées dans la boue en Bretagne pour des classes vertes à Kiddy Land.
Oh ne t’inquiète pas, tu as aussi du footwork plus calme et réglementaire, à l’instar du faussement candide 覆面調査員 (GabberTrap Mix), mais on ne reste jamais longtemps sans une progression jungle cosmique hallucinante comme sur la longue fresque d’Hidden Power, comme si Jean Michel Jarre s’était muté en distributeur de taloches déréglé. Ça n’invente rien, ça copie tout, ça fout un pan entier de musique dans un mixeur, pour recracher une bouillie obscène et jouissive, maculant de sperme fluorescent les mornes murs de ta baraque.
Rien de nouveau, certes, mais alors, pourquoi ce disque plutôt qu’un autre ? Parce que d’un point de vu strictement musical, ce WLFGRL est un des meilleurs disques jungle matiné de footwork entendu depuis quelques temps. Ici, point de références hiphop ou street. On est dans la pure folie rave, la baise dans les toilettes, les clubs puants et bétonnés. On est dans la frénésie, le carnage, le plaisir pur et instantané. Un mélange de vice londonien et de régression japonaise, le rappel d’une folie drum’b bass faisandée, et la modernité d’une scène juke encore loin d’être essorée.
Mais aussi parce que – pour une certaine tranche d’âge, il renvoie à ce que l’on ne vit plus que de façon sporadique, voir plus du tout. Parce que l’on est comme Kevin Spacey dans son garage, à fumer des clopes en écoutant Pink Floyd, tentant de rattraper une jeunesse déjà perdue. On se masturbe les tympans dans la douche, les enceintes crachant Machine Girl à fond, en rêvant d’une liberté adolescente, alors que l’on se savonne simplement le dos avant d’aller bosser. On perçoit cette musique rave dégueulasse comme une belle nymphe de 19 ans que l’on n’arrivera plus jamais à fréquenter en personne, sauf à paraître forcément ridicule et pervers, ridés et cheveux poivre sel, dans une fosse entourée de sales jeunes drogués…
Ecouter ce WLFGRL, c’est se sentir comme un vieux, terré chez-lui, matant la photo de son amour de jeunesse, sans avoir les couilles de décrocher son téléphone pour reprendre contact. Parce que tu sais pertinemment que les coïts improvisés dans les chiottes d’un club où une âme perdue te crache son haleine chaude dans le creux de ton cou, c’est terminé. Que la prise de drogue/alcool sans craindre d’être explosé au boulot le lundi et de foirer des contrats, c’est terminé. Que de partir en bagnole avec des potes sans but, le coffre rempli de bière, sans avoir cette putain de peur latente de chopper un cancer, c’est terminé.
Alors on se plonge dans ce Machine Girl avec une mélancolique larme à l’œil, à maugréer doucereusement sur le passé et sur une vie désormais trop tranquille. Amorphe, un peu triste mais le sourire au lèvre, en bougeant sagement la tête sur une musique qui, il y a 10 ans, nous faisait encore méchamment bander.
