On voit cette nouvelle galette de Moodymann comme le come back quasi inattendu d’une légende, alors que l’americain n’a jamais levé le pied, sortant au moins une galette par an. Ce qui est sur, c’est que l’on avait pas autant parlé d’une sortie de Moodymann depuis un bail. Il faut dire que Kenneth Dixon, après avoir claqué une demi-douzaine d’albums légendaires à la suite, s’est méchamment ramolli, (un comble pour un mec presque autant connu pour son chibre que sa musique), jusqu’à sortir des galettes parfois anecdotiques, ou au mieux comprenant des titres de folie, mais avec une qualité globale inégale. J’avais, l’année dernière, commencé un article sur son mini-Lp ABCD, avant de rapidement abandonner. Loin d’être mauvais, l’album manquait pourtant de tout ce que j’aimais chez Moodymann : cette odeur de chatte constante, cette transpiration qui perle à chaque beat, ce mélange de mouille et de foutre émanant des exaltations inhérentes à sa musique. Outre la mélancolie, la deep house n’est jamais autant marquante qu’en ayant cette aura ultra sexuelle, jamais vulgaire. Et cette putain de chaleur, cette rondeur des productions du gars, on ne la percevait plus vraiment. Elle était surement là, mais elle ne me touchait plus, alors que les premiers LP du bonhomme sont la BO de mes rêves érotiques.
Bon, il faut préciser tout de suite qu’il y a deux versions de l’album. Une physique LP avec douze titres, et une digital-CD frôlant le non sens avec ses 27 titres (!!). Cette version enhanced est principalement composée d’interludes sympas mais loin d’être indispensables, ou de gimmicks disséminés plusieurs fois dans le tracklisting (Moodymann semble ne pas avoir digéré le fait que son Freaky Mother Fucker n’ait pas envahi les radios du monde entier), il est donc difficile de ne pas se focaliser sur l’album en formation resserrée.
Autant aller droit au but : cet album sent le cul. Vraiment. Ca pue les frottements de peau, les cambrures ruisselantes. Et pour la première fois depuis quelques temps, cela ne semble même pas forcé. Moodymann semble en avoir rien à branler, il balance une galette je-m’en-foutiste qui n’a aucun sens dans le tracklisting, dans une pochette représentant Kenneth Dixon de façon frontale, dans des morceaux qui existaient déjà, à peine remixés.
A dire vrai, j’y suis allé un peu à reculons mais je me suis pris une baffe directement. Desire est un morceau immense. Absolument immense. C’est d’une perfection insensée, dans le rythme, chaud et rond, dans la mélodie, feutrée, et dans le chant de José James, redoutable. Un morceau qui donne envie de danser, de caresser des corps, de s’enivrer de courbures et cambrures. Oh certes, ce morceau semble être qu’une simple version remixée d’une track de José James. Mais cette version par Moody est folle. Cette précision dans le rythme, dans les exaltations mises en boucle, dans cette voix chaude, dans cette house d’une pureté dingue. Il suffirait de balancer ce morceau dans les lieux publics pour que le monstre foule se mette à couiner de plaisir en entrant, enfin, en symbiose. Ecouter ce morceau, c’est admirer une strip teaseuse s’effeuillant sur le piano d’un jazzman la clope au bec. Puis s’approcher d’elle, lui attraper la main pour l’emmener faire le tour de la ville en bagnole, amourette d’une nuit grillée par les néons. Et faire l’amour jusqu’au lendemain.
Mais Moodymann, c’est parfois légèrement plus salace, comme sur l’excellent No, track ultra sexuelle et caverneuse, fresque Detroit à rapprocher de certains exercices lubriques d’Aaron Carl, mais en hétéro, avec cette voix gutturale susurrant des insanités à une demoiselle revêche. Ca sent la petite culotte égarée dans les toilettes d’un club, les regards appuyés avant fellation et la copulation sous psychotrope. Imparable.
On tient aussi le tube de l’année, la cavalcade soul-r’n-b de folie avec Lyk U Used 2, pour une complainte dépressive géniale. A chanter sous la douche, en se déhanchant comme un con, avant de comprendre que ce morceau est le morceau mélancolique le plus bandant de l’année. On n’est pas loin d’un Cold Ware de Monae, mais en dépouillé, écrasé par la solitude et l’envie de danser. “Bitch don’t want me no more”, on sent que c’est presque trop facile pour Moodymann de balancer un tube qui retournerait la terre, mais l’homme qui veut rester terré dans les boites à cul sales de Detroit, semble ne même pas avoir envie de faire l’effort. Il nous le rappelle d’ailleurs quelques secondes de son Freaky Motherfucker en fin de track.
Come 2 Me prendra le même créneau, en moins tubesque mais plus langoureux, tout aussi… et je ne peux pas continuer cette chronique car CETTE PUTAIN DE LIBRAIRIE ITUNES DE MERDE vient de s’effacer et que j’ai perdues toutes les données et que re-uploader le fichier librairie itunes va me prendre plusieurs heures. Merci Itunes. Passons à la conclusion donc, pour éviter que je balance mon ordinateur par la fenêtre…
Que l’on soit clair, Moodymann est loin de sortir avec cet album éponyme un chef d’œuvre du même poid que ses albums de la grande époque. Mais l’on s’éclate bien à l’écoute de ce Moodymann LP. Il transpire dur, plein de tension sexuelle et de prises de positions langoureuses. C’est un peu le bordel dans ce disque, et l’on ne parle même pas de la version de 27 titres. Mais Kenneth Dixon écrase toute concurrence sur certains morceaux, comme l’affolant Desire, la fresque Sloppy Cosmic ou l’imparable Lyk U Used 2. On se demande parfois ce que Moodymann à réellement crée dans le morceau, souvent fait avec des collaborateurs, mais rapidement on s’en fout, ça marche parfaitement, on a juste envie de ramper par terre en demandant des massages.
L’écoute de ce Moodymann nous fait aussi regretter que dans 99% des clubs de strips du monde, on passe de la soupe merdique, en demandant aux gens de s’effeuiller sur les synthés stridents d’un tube turbiné à l’excès. Les Work Bitch ou Born This Way se sont retrouvé propulsés comme BO obligés des lieux de vice sans aucune cohérence. Alors que la vraie musique de pôle dance, c’est façon Moodymann. Le moite, le sombre, à peine illuminé par cambrures et néons. Celle qui provoque érections et flaques de cyprine avant même que les corps se mettent en branle. Loin d’être un disque révolutionnaire, mais surement l’un de ceux sur lesquels on prendra le plus son pied en 2014
